Assessment and curriculum design
A facilitator will work with you to review your assessment and planning process and practices and make recommendations about how these might be strengthened to enhance teachers’ capability to support children’s learning. This work is always approached in the context of Te Whāriki and your service’s priorities for children’s learning (local curriculum).
Having identified any areas for development, we will work with you to address the learning needs of your team. The refinement of assessment and planning can be facilitated by us or by your leaders with our support as preferred. Facilitators will support curriculum leaders to implement systems and approaches that focus on what really matters, while keeping assessment, curriculum design and documentation manageable and meaningful.
Intentional teaching
We will define what intentional teaching is, explore its basis in current educational theory, and discuss practical strategies to enhance young children’s learning.
Teachers will be challenged to integrate child-led play with active, purposeful pedagogy that is grounded in your service’s priorities for learning.
Drawing strongly on Te Whāriki, teachers will be inspired to consider their learning environments, teaching strategies, and pedagogical decision-making to support the learning progress of children.
Understanding learning progressions
A key responsibility we have as teachers is to observe and document children’s learning progress so that learning opportunities and teaching strategies can be provided to further advance their learning.
In order to be able to do this effectively, teachers need to know the predictable developmental progressions that learning follows. We will work with you to support your understanding of what progress looks like with regard to the learning outcomes and key dispositions. This will allow you to confidently identify where children are in their learning trajectories and where they are likely to go next.
Facilitating a parents’ evening
If you are planning a parents’ evening and would like to have an invited speaker, one of our facilitators can do that for you. We have expertise in a wide range of topics that would be of interest to whanau or you can request a topic of your own.
Some of the presentations that have been popular in the past are: The benefits of risky play, What does literacy learning look like in ECE?, Purposeful parenting for our changing world, The importance of fostering children’s social competence and Understanding learning and behaviour in the early years.
