Philosophy development and review
Is your current philosophy a true reflection of your centre team and community? Does your practice align closely with your philosophy statement? Have you had significant changes to your teaching team? Is your service new or under new ownership?
If so, it may be time for a philosophy redevelopment or review.
A new or refreshed philosophy will be achieved through facilitated discussion that draws in all your teaching team and your whanau community, resulting in a document that provides a foundation for consistency and coherence in centre priorities and functioning.
Centres that engage us to undertake this with them report that their teaching teams have a stronger commitment to their philosophy and are more motivated to practice in ways that are in alignment with it.
This work would be of great benefit to newly formed teams or teams that have had significant changes in staff.
Defining and embedding your local curriculum
Your local curriculum is at the heart of providing meaningful, authentic learning experiences for tamariki. It’s where Te Whāriki meets the unique people, places, and stories of your community, shaping a curriculum that truly reflects who you are and what matters most to teachers, children, families.
You’ll gain strategies to make your curriculum deeply relevant, culturally responsive, and sustainable, while building strong partnerships with whānau and your wider community. Then with your facilitator you will explore how to bring this alive in everyday practice.
Feedback on your philosophy in practice
Have one of our facilitators come into your service and observe your team in action. They will then give feedback on how effectively kaiako are reflecting the philosophy and local curriculum in their words and actions. Next, the facilitator will work with you to develop a plan to better align philosophy and practice as required.
